Etoile Christie was born in Paris, France. He got his name because the pet store where he was purchased was on the Place de l'Etoile (aka Place Charles de Gaulle) which is a large road junction, the meeting point of twelve straight avenues (hence it's historic name which translates as "Square of the Star) including the Champs-Elysees which continues to the east. Etoile means star in French.
